In a new and improved format of the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, the relay tandem of Damian Lillard and Trey Burke took home the trophy, defeating rookies Michael Carter-Williams and Victor Oladipo by a tenth of a second.
Carter-Williams and Oladipo (43.3 seconds) slid past the DeMar DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo tandem (45 seconds) to move to the finals, while Lillard and Burke’s 40.6 second time defeated Reggie Jackson and Goran Dragic’s time of 42.3 seconds.
The MCW-Oladipo team posted a time of 45.3 seconds in the finals, but were bested when Burke’s layup went through the net at 45.2 seconds.
The revised format consisted of a relay between the team’s two players. The first man up made a layup/dunk, chest pass through a net, long two-point jumper above the free throw line, and then dribbled down court, weaving between nets before passing to their teammate for a layup/dunk. The second player then went through the same routine before finishing at the rim.
