Anthony Bennett is still without a field goal make

We are four games into the season and the Cavaliers are 2-2. Not bad so far.

We are four games into the season and Andrew Bynum has yet to get hurt.

And we are four games into the season and Anthony Bennett has yet to make a field goal. Yes, that is not a typo.

Bennett is 0-of-15 and averaging 0.5 points. He is 0-of-8 from three-point territory and his only two points came from the free throw line in the season opener. Welcome to the NBA.

But here is the thing; It has been FOUR GAMES out of 82. That is less than five percent of the season. There is no reason to worry or panic about Bennett’s struggles so far.

Yes, other rookies have excelled so far this season, specifically Michael Carte-Williams, but Bennett deserves a break.

He did not participate in the summer league because he was recovering from his shoulder injury. And so when training camp opened up, it was his first real taste of basketball activities since late March.

I have no doubt these opening four games have just been Bennett shaking off the cobwebs.  As Mike Brown said today, it looks like Bennett is “pressing to a certain degree.”

Bennett just needs to get his first make out of the way and then the confidence will be back.

It is way too early to label him as a “bust” or “total failure” as some have tried to say. After all, he has only played 51 minutes so far.  And those 51 minutes have not all been disappointing.

Coach Brown said that Bennett has surprised them with his defense and that he has “been tougher and stronger” than they anticipated.

I trust that the No. 1 pick will get at least one basket to fall Wednesday in Milwaukee. And if he does not, he still will have 77 more tries.

There is no need to panic, yet.

But if on April 16th we are having this same discussion, you can go ahead and panic.
