Want to hear some news about Kyrie Irving that is occurring in the summertime and doesn’t involve the word injury? The budding point guard phenom and All-Star will be featured on his first video game cover in 2013 with the release of NBA Live 14 for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. With the NBA 2K series seeing so much success, EA Sports took the back burner for sports games and were buried by the technological and graphic advancements that 2K brought to the table. Since the release of NBA Live 10, we have not seen an NBA Live release until this the year of 2013. The game is set to release in quarter four of 2013 (sometime between the months of September and December) and will only be available for the next generation of gaming systems.

The executive producer for the game, Sean O’Brien, had this to say about what the gameplay will be centered around:

NBA Live 14′s focus is on core gameplay. This means “capturing the essence of half-court basketball, providing 1-on-1 isolation both in the perimeter and the post, the 2-on-2 chess match that is the pick and roll, while still offering the gamer the opportunity to push the basketball in transition and have the control required to get the ball into the lane to either take the ball to the rim or find an open teammate if the defense collapses.”

Sounds right up our floor general’s ally, eh? The game is designed to be able to compete with the 2K series, which is currently flourishing in the sports realm of video games. By being able to provide realtime updates to how hot or cold a player may be in a certain game and having it reflect that player’s performance (once updated) in your game and making 5-on-5 gameplay more high tech than ever, the reboot of NBA Live promises to be one that will stick around for sometime instead of disappearing under a stack of 2K games.
