NBA Rising Stars Challenge 2013: Tyler Zeller hides in shell

After trading buckets in the first five minutes of the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge with Team Chuck, Team Shaq couldn’t compete with the onslaught of Kenneth Faried down low and the long-range attack led by Isaiah Thomas. While the three other Cleveland Cavalier players were showing off their talents, Zeller shied away and only scored four points and recorded four rebounds.

He played timid the whole night, resulting in only two attempts from the field – the least of any player besides Andre Drummond. He played 16 of 40 minutes in the game, looking lost at most times on the court. He didn’t fit in and didn’t take advantage of the dunk fest that ensued among the bigs (and some smalls) from the onset. Faried set the pace, and most players followed suit. But Zeller stayed his awkward self with his neon-bright shoes.

There were few bigs on Team Shaq, so Zeller had the perfect opportunity to hog the boards and sneak in the paint. Instead the quick shooters took grasp of the game and continued to be cold form three land. The former North Carolina player wasted an opportunity, so hopefully he takes full grasp of his opportunity next season.
