The United States men’s basketball team coasted to a 119-86 victory over Australia today in the Olympic quarterfinals match.
Leading the way for the Americans was Kobe Bryant, who scored 18 of his 20 points from behind the three-point arc. LeBron James played facilitator again and finished the game with a triple-double; 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Once again, the U.S. did not start off strong, but they went on a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring Australia 35-16 in the period.
The U.S. now moves onto the semi-finals to face Argentina on Friday, August 10. There may be some bad blood that spills over into this match after Monday’s match that ended in a punch to Carmelo Anthony’s groin. The winner of USA/Argentina will go onto the gold medal match to face the winner of Russia/Spain.
