Cavaliers A Frontrunner To Sign Anthony Tolliver

Power forward Anthony Tolliver has announced that the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves are the two most likely teams to land the free agent right now according to Chris Tomasson. He also said that the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards are the other teams that are on his radar.

Tolliver has played the last two seasons in Minnesota, averaging 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 42.8 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three and 78.5 percent from the charity stripe. A pretty reliable shooter who can be good for the Cavaliers when they call his name to relieve Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson or even Samardo Samuels.

The only season Tolliver started more than five games was the 2009-10 season, when he started 29 of 44 games for the Golden State Warriors and averaged 12.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 32.3 minutes. He shot around the same numbers as he did in the next two seasons in Minnesota. Tolliver did, however, shoot and miss one shot as a Portland Trial Blazer in the 2009-10 season.

I’d imagine if Tolliver agrees to sign with the Cavaliers, then he would get anywhere from 15-17 minutes every game. He’s proven he can play on a talented roster and still succeed like he did as a Warrior. He played with the likes of Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, Reggie Williams and current Clevelander Kelenna Azubuike. They all averaged more than 15.5 points that season.

Minnesota wasn’t on his frontrunners list in 2010, so there is no certainty that Tolliver is close to signing with the Cavaliers at all over other teams.
