Kyrie Irving knows how to talk game. Irving, a member of the U.S.A. Olympic select team, challenged Olympic starter Kobe Bryant to a one-on-one game of basketball with the loser having to donate $50,000 to a charity of the winner’s choice. In a hilarious video where Kobe declares that he will be making his charity “easy money,” Irving lets Kobe know that he isn’t some high school kid challenging the Laker legend to a basketball game.
The video shows that the reigning Rookie of the Year is not at all afraid of the 14-time NBA All-Star and five-time NBA champion. In fact, Irving copies the same exact swagger that he portrayed earlier this year in a commercial most famously known as “Uncle Drew.” He lets Kobe know that he’s no Lil’ Bow Wow, and that he actually has college experience even though Bryant snaps back at the youngster by saying, “You just came out of high school, kid!”
Bryant couldn’t be more wrong. Irving did manage to play 12 whole games as a Duke Blue Devil, while Bryant was the one who jumped straight to the NBA from high school.
Although it seems that the two are just having a little fun, Bryant completely tears Irving to shreds at points in the video. He asks Irving if he would like the stake of the game lowered to $25,000, as he fears that Irving losing $50 grand might be a tad too much for the Cavalier to handle.
Everyone who has watched this video has now witnessed Irving and Bryant shake hands to the $50,000 one-on-one bet that Irving proposed to Kobe. Irving may not have the defensive skills yet to take on a player like Kobe, but age will definitely play a factor once the two get down to business on the court.
Whether Irving will show up in another disguise is still pending, but there will be plenty of trash talk and hype leading up to this thrilling matchup.
