According to Yahoo!, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated reports, Magic center Dwight Howard may soon become a Brooklyn Net.
The Nets, who reportedly traded for Hawks guard Joe Johnson last night and are in the process of trying to re-sign All-Star point guard Deron Williams, would give up players and draft picks as part of the deal. Specifically, Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, and several first round picks in exchange for Howard.
The deal is not yet finalized, as the Magic are also weighing offers from the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard. The Magic are also reported to not be hot on the Nets offer, and are looking for a deal that would help them better than the one currently on the table.
Howard, who averaged 20.6 points per game and 14.5 rebounds per game last season, has made it clear that he only wants to play in Brooklyn, making that his most likely destination. If he is traded anywhere else, it is likely that he will become a free agent after next season, leaving any other team he plays for out in the cold.
