Show Z The Love, Not Hate

There comes a time when fans act completely foolish. It appears that it’s happening now with Cleveland Cavaliers fans.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas has now become Special Assistant to General Manager Chris Grant. Yet some fans are unhappy about Z’s return. Some see him as a traitor for leaving Cleveland and joining LeBron in Miami. He seems to have been tossed into the same classification as Indians great Jim Thome.

I cannot believe how some fans are treating him. Let’s examine the truth for a just a minute. Z was in the twilight of his career. He knew he had possibly one year left, and he wanted a ring. Miami was his best shot at winning one. So he went with them in hopes of winning a championship. Now of course, the Heat lost in the NBA finals to the Mavericks. But Z still had his run to for the ring.

Now his playing days are over and the Cavaliers have welcomed him with open arms. Dan Gilbert approves of him joining the organization. If he didn’t, Z would not be with the team in any capacity. So why can’t the same fans who loved him for years embrace him? I guess it’s just the Cleveland mentality. If you don’t stick with a Cleveland team for your career, you are labeled a traitor and branded for life. Talk to Jim Thome if you don’t believe me.
Wake up Cleveland. Big Z is back. And it is time we show him some of the love we showed him for so many years. He wanted a ring. What player does not? He had the chance to go get one. He may have failed, but he tried. And now he has returned. Quit the hate for this guy. LeBron is a different situation all together. But with big Z, it’s time we welcome him back to the Cavalier family.
