Well isn’t that just perfect.
The Cavaliers will be hosting a Fan Appreciation Night on Wednesday evening back in the Q as they take on the Washington Wizards. And it should be the perfect end to a bad, bad season for the Cavaliers. As one of the worst teams in the NBA, they will be matched up against another one of the worst teams in the league to punctuate the common theme of this basketball season: bad basketball.
From the Cavaliers website:
Fan Appreciation Night marks the last home game of the Cavaliers 2010-11 season and an opportunity for the Wine & Gold to say THANKS to their amazing fans for the abundance of loyalty and support they have shown this season… The Cavs will give away MORE THAN $1 MILLION in prizes, including a mortgage payment from Quicken Loans, a brand new 2011 Kia Soul, a trip to New Orleans courtesy of the Cleveland Horseshoe Casino and much, MUCH more! So many prizes, in fact, that EVERY FAN will go home with something!
A Fan Appreciation tradition, 30 lucky fans will be chosen at random to come onto the court immediately following the game, where the Cavs players will literally give the jerseys off their backs and the shoes off their feet! Fifteen fans will receive game-worn jerseys and 15 fans will receive game-worn shoes.
The premise of this idea is great. I love the idea of the Cavaliers, who I think legitimately care about the city of Cleveland – unlike someone who shall remain nameless – will be showing their love for the city. And I realize that they have no control over who they play in the last game of the season.
But they’ve got to figure out a way to appreciate the fans on a night that people actually want to be at the arena. Nobody wants to see the Cavaliers and Wizards.
And the only thing that every fan who watches this game will be leaving with is a stomach ache and a bad taste in their mouth.
